The scope for architectural design and the savings in running costs through the intermediate storage and reuse of excess heat were the reasons for choosing enercret.

- enercret absorber piles: 320 piles, 50 cm dia., 18m in length
- Absorber lines: 65 km, DN 25 mm
- Activated ground mass: approx. 100,000 m3
Up to 800 kW of excess heat from the ice-making equipment can be given off into the ground. Such peak outputs can also be harnessed for heating and cooling purposes. The soil beneath the hall has been turned into a 100,000 m³ storage facility for heating and cooling energy which regenerates itself over the course of the year.
Since suitably dimensioned for the overall energy system, the absorber piles can be used to cover a large part of the annual heating and cooling loads of the buildings of the exhibition centre with minimal power requirements. This means above all the heating and cooling requirements of the new exhibition hall/ice rink itself, an exhibition hall which is also used as a tennis hall and another which doubles as a sports hall. Catering and exhibition administration operations are also supplied with energy.
In order to arrive at a perfect technical solution to deal with the complexities of the dynamic thermal processes in the 3-dimensional multi-layer underground storage facility, use of the calculation and simulation software TRNSPILE/TRNSSLAB proved indispensable for planning and dimensioning the installation.
